"Location was good"

Maudes1, 4/5 Reviewed 3rd October 2018 on TripAdvisor.com

Reception staff were nice, especially the trainee. Rooms were very dated and bedding not up to standard of other Mecure that we have stayed. Good location for getting to Cuba Street. Request room away from lifts.

“Fantastic stay”

A wonderful view of the beach and a convenient location to restaurants and we even got to watch the Super Bowl at Frankie’s Sports pub.

"Clean, Efficient and Convenient Location"

Douglas, 4 Star Review Received 13th March 2018 from Trip Advisor

Stayed 2 nights in a 2nd floor balcony apartment on our trip to the Coromandel Peninsula. Motel has a basic utilitarian design with our unit (room 716) having a kitchen, living / dining room, balcony with nice ocean view and separate bedroom that met our needs. The motel's host, Jill, was very hospitable and gave us good recommendations for places to eat. The motel is within easy walking distance to restaurants and close to Whitianga shops.

"Great"

Davidp, 5 Star Review Received 32st October 2017 from Trip Advisor

As we were in the corner room we had a view to the lake. Clean and comfortable. Small kitchen so we were able to cook dinner and make breakfast so this kept our expenses down. Onsite parking. Wide stairs to the top level.

"Clean rooms close to town"

Kate, 4 Star Review Received 22nd March 2018 from Expedia

Nice clean room with good kitchenette and balcony with sea view. The room seemed to be quite hot each time we returned. We didn’t use the pool, but it looked clean and our daughter loved the playground. In a great location - right near the beach and around the corner from main street of town. Good value for money.

Immaculate hotel with ocean view rooms."

Suzanne, 5 Star Review Received 19th August 2017 from Expedia

After we were quickly checked in, we were walked to our room and provided with a fresh milk for our morning coffee. The room was fresh, light and tasty decorated, Every room was immaculate and the kitchen was stocked with all the dishes and utensils we needed. The balcony was big and the view was beautiful (ocean view). I loved the cute beach town feel. We ate dinner at a local Thai/Indian restaurant which was fantastic (menu provided in hotel info binder). My husband and I will definitely come back and stay at this hotel when we come back to this area.

"The Armitage is the place to stay in Tauranga."

John, 10/10 Review Received 25th September 2016 from Booking.com

The clean rooms, the restaurant and the staff are what we like the most. This was our third stay and it's now our 'go to' place in Tauranga. It's within walking distance of the central city and the shore, which means we can head off on foot and leave the car in the free car park if we want. It's an older hotel, so expect the decor to reflect that, but that doesn't detract from the excellent service. Looking forward to our next visit to Tauranga and the Armitage.

"Excellent Management and Team Response"

Wez6699, 5 Star Review Received 7th Febuary 2018 from Trip Advisor

We visited the hotel for two nights recently. During our second evening we had cause to raise concern about the quality of meals ordered via room service. The following morning we addressed the issue at reception. We were greeted by a lovely young woman on reception Amanda who was very friendly, pleasant and helpful. We then spoke with the General Manager Nicolas Caffardo whose response was friendly, supportive, professional and helpful. We were offered complimentary breakfasts and encountered Tiffany in the restaurant. Tiffany was helpful, friendly and lovely to deal with. Upon our return home we received not only a follow up email but personal phone call from Nicolas (GM) to ensure we were happy with the response from the team to our concern. We have used this hotel a number of times over the past 2-3 years and never had a problem. Our stays have always been very enjoyable. No one likes to complain and when in a situation like this the response from the establishment is a vital part of the whole experience. This team led by Nicolas were excellent in how they dealt with this situation promptly, in a positive, friendly and supportive manner. Well Done Hotel Armitage!

"Youngson Family Reunion"

Mikeve103, 5 Star Review Received 9th October 2017 from Trip Advisor

This last weekend - Friday and Saturday nights were the times we were in the hotel for this. Leading up to this event I was dealing with Sarah who could not have been more helpful right from the start, recommending how to do different things. On the two nights the allocated person to look after us was Vishal who could not have done enough for us along with his staff for the night. The food was great for both evenings. Yes the hotel is in need of a face lift but I hope not too much and I know this is in the pipe line with the new owners, but we all had fun along with all the children we had there and that is what it was all about, not the looks. Anyone looking for this type of venue well worth it. As I am a local I did not stay in the Hotel.

"Very comfortable"

MancLassie, 5 Star Review Received 5th April 2016 from Trip Advisor

Visiting friends from the UK a few weeks ago we stayed in Tauranga for a 2 night stopover during our holiday. They recommended the Armitage and we weren't disappointed! The hotel reminded me of a bygone era - but in a good way. Our room was spacious, clean and the bed was one of the most comfortable I stayed in during our entire 3 week holiday. The bathroom was huge with a shower over the spa bath. The staff were so friendly - nothing was too much trouble. I would definitely stay there again when I'm over there again.

"Tauranga Escape"

Brian, 5/5 Review Received 26th November 2017 from Expedia

Overnight escape visiting friends and family. Due to Hotels.com deal we were able to afford an upgrade to room with jetted bath and free breakfast the next morning. Staff were friendly and helpful and happy to help when we had any questions. Rooms were old but tidy and comfortable. We also had dinner in the Restaurant at the hotel. Standard Restaurant prices but well worth the money - very tasty. The free breakfast was the standard hotel buffet but again no complaints regarding the food. Overall our only complaint would have to be the toilet in the room. It is so close to the wall you struggle to sit down. Can't figure why they installed them that way.

"Grand spacious hotel close to everything"

Barbare, 5/5 Review Received 30th September 2017 from Expedia

This lovely hotel full of beautiful features was perfect. It was built quite some time ago and was obviously a classy place to stay then. We had a refurbished room which had it's own balcony that had a table and chairs to sit on in the morning. The rooms are HUGE (which was a surprise) And the bath was a spa bath. The Clipper Lounge for drinks is gorgeous with creased leather couches and cavernous armchairs and has a lead-light entrance way. In the foyer is a grand piano and one of the nights we were there a group of tee totaling rugby players were playing reggae respectfully on it. Brilliant! Had a marvelous stay and couldn't fault the cleanliness and customer service.

Amazingly beautiful grand hotel with a feel of that old charm you just don't get much nowadays, friendly staff and a lovely comfy bed. Value for money that you won't find anywhere else in Tauranga, I actually felt that it could've been a bit more per room, for what you got!

We had a 16th floor room with a wonderful view .Petone around to Newtown, but I suspect our room has the best view-good bath too. Quiet and central-one block to Cuba Mall, two blocks to Courtney Place. Easy to walk around. Went to Cin Cin Italian restaurant Cuba Mall, BurgerLiquor on Willis Street , and a roast meal at The Grand, Courtney Place. Breakfast Saturday at the Beach Caf in Island Bay-best bacon yet. Watch out for cyclists, and no, they won't give way and can get aggressive. Wellington can turn on a howling wind and glorious calm (rare) sun filled days. Wonderful place because it is possible to walk everywhere,in the City.

“Great little place to stay in Wellington!”

T0nez, 8.3/10 Reviewed 2nd august 2018 on Bookings.com

The bed was a little soft for me but my husband liked it. Could hear noise from the street below most of the night but that's expected when you choose to stay in the city. Was dissappointed that there was no tv in the bedroom - but in saying that did not expect a room with a seperate living room space and a little kitchen nook.

Within walking distance of everywhere we wanted to visit. Very easy to check in, polite and friendly staff. Was a clean and tidy room, with views of the street below. Had a little balcony but you had to ring reception to get someone to come and open it up - which we didn't as we only stayed one night. Good shower pressure.

"Two night weekend away"

Phil W, 3/5 Reviewed 17th July 2018 on TripAdvisor

Beautiful lobby and a great location right in the middle of town.

The staff member who checked us in was amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable and informative about local area.

The room we have is spacious, well
Laid out but very basic.

Being winter it only has a wall heater that is hard wired in and in a timer. Little bit frustrating as obviously it turns off and you wake up cold.

The bed is extremely uncomfortable with bad roll together. Feels like a real cheap budget mattress.

The apartment Misses on little things like no TV in the bedroom, no AC ETC.

Location and staff would give this place a 5 rating but unfortunately the apartment itself drops it to a 3 rating.

The most important thing for me is a decent night’s sleep which unfortunately didn’t happen due to a stink bed.

"Recommend Staying"

ANavanua, 4/5 Reviewed 21st May 2018 on TripAdvisor.com

The good thing about the Mercure is that it didn’t pretend to be what it isn’t! It’s a mid range hotel that ticks all the boxes, clean and tidy, rooms are of average size but I didn’t feel boxed in.....I’m by no means a small bloke either! The guys at reception are friendly and efficient, and out of all the Accor branded hotels in town they are the most responsive to my emails. What also gives it an edge is it’s fairly close to the CBD. If you are like me and arrive latish then no need to pay for parking, use the available parking on the road outside the hotel, it’s well lit and safe and you won’t get a ticket as long as you are gone by about 8:30 in the morning!

"Great Central Location"

Chinagirl, 10/10 Reviewed 10th June 2018 on Expedia.com

Hotel was centrally located and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and clean, however it's location on the first floor right next to the alleyway and a window facing the front that we could not see out of due to the entrance way, meant the room was quite dingy and didn't lend itself to wanting to spending much time in it. Not sure if the hotel was fully booked but if it wasn't, I think this room should be used as a last resort.

"Good Value for Overnight Stay in Central Wellington"

Flying_kiwi19, 4/5 star Review from 16th February 2018 on Trip Advisor

Stayed here for 1 night to meet up with friends in the city. This is a basic hotel in the CBD and was good value for the location and price paid for a short stay. Friendly & efficient staff. Room had no view, but was a good size, clean & bed comfortable. Bathroom looked recently refurbished and was excellent. Biggest hassle is finding a place to park the car for a Friday night overnight stay, but can't fault the hotel for that.

"Great location, clean, comfortable bed but no air-conditioning. Only heater available."

We stayed for 2 nights with two bookings. 2nd night was booked for 2 room suite with Harbour view. Nice greeting at the front desk. Quick check in. On arrival to the room, realize that there is no air-conditioning. Only heater is available. Perhaps Welly' s weather does not need aircon. But having it will improve comfort level. Hotel has no gym. Free gym pass to Les Mills no longer offered. Very basic but comfortable. Great location with easy access to restaurants, bars and the waterfront. 1 minute walk to bus stop to catch the Airport bus. Highly recommended for its good value in strategic location

"Excellent accommodation"

Scoop2657, 5/5 Star Review Received 17th February 2018 from Trip Advisor

stayed here on business for 4 nights, in a first floor unit. I cannot fault either the accommodation or service. The room was spacious and serviced daily to a high standard. Even though this establishment doesn't have a bar or restaurant they have a sister hotel just around the corner that does. The front counter staff were efficient, the young French lass was delightful, taking an interest in why you were in the city. I would have no hesitation in staying in this room again. Show less

Mesell, 4/5 Star Review Received 10th February 2018 from Expedia

We stayed for 3 nights. Perfect spot for walks through the city, to Te papa, the playgrounds and parks on the wharf. The room size was good and the fact that the bathroom was not attached to the bedroom was good. Comfortable bed and couch. Kitchenette was great. A bit noisy with street noise at night but I guess that’s expected for being right in the city. Overall the room was not the most modern but had everything we needed for a short stay with a toddler.

Stayed here for a night over in Wellie to see the ballet. We wanted something clean, close to the theater and central but didn't need anything fancy. Perfect for our needs - reception staff super friendly and helpful, room spotless and great location for what we were doing.
Bedroom area was well maintained and bathroom clean and functional although could do with an update at some stage. Windows could do with new insulation foam to reduce noise and wind sound.
We didn't eat here as it was so close to lots of great eating spots (Neo for breakfast was stunning and Burger Liquor, both a quick stroll away, were excellent). Would definitely stay here again but maybe would choose elsewhere if it was a special occasion.

Having read some of the reviews of the Mercure Abel Tasman I was a little sceptical. We arrived off the train from Auckland around 1930hrs and check in was quick but not as friendly as expected from an Accor hotel. When we got to our room it was not what I had booked. The room we were suppose to have had was crossed out on the checkin form and were given the other room. As we were staying for 6 nights I checked with the manager the next morning and all was sorted with a minimum of fuss. Thank you Mercure. The Mercure Abel Tasman is an older hotel and does not have air con but the room we had was spacious and very clean. Be prepared for traffic noise if you have the window open. The hotel is centrally located and a short walk from restaurants, theatres, shopping and the museum. A couple of doors down from the hotel is a dining area with 15-20 food stalls. We ate here regularly and the food was delicious. We had dinner one night at the hotel and it was very nice. The main came with a drink included in the price. Great value. Breakfast was a simple but enjoyable buffet. You could also order al a carte. The hotel has very good coin operated washing and drying machines. Great value for money hotel.

"Well located, clean and tidy"

LG, 4/5 Star Review Received 31st August 2018 from TripAdvisor

Stayed here for two nights. Conveniently located near the university, our main destination. Handy to Cuba St, couple of Cafes and a market place food court on the same street. Stayed in a twin room - nice to have one large bed (king, not queen as expected) and a single - beds were comfy. The decor and building is a bit dated but clean and tidy. Check in was swift and friendly. The buffet breakfast in the ground floor restaurant was nice but nothing stood out particularly. One night was spent in a street facing room on the 3rd floor - a bit noisy with voices from the street. The second night was another booking, this time facing the rear on the 4th floor so no view but quieter overnight. Would happily stay here again for the location and a reasonably priced room but not if you are looking for something luxurious or modern.

"Very central and comfortable"

Emma, 8/10 Reviewed 10th August 2018 on Bookings.com

Very centrally located, comfortable hotel. Only issue worth noting was the noise at night time, but it is right in the middle of the city! And they provide ear plugs. The bar was lovely and cosy too. Would recommend to couples or groups of friends.

Very handy location to most things in the CBD. Good price for the Sunday night we stayed.

"Central Wellington location"

Billie, 9.2/10 Reviewed 1st July 2018 on Bookings.com

Clean, tidy, and simple. All that we needed for a weekend stay. Working distance to shops and restaurants and some good cafes across the street. Would stay again.

"Fabulous"

Lara, 8.8/10 Reviewed 10th June 2018 on Bookings.com

Only suggestions would be to have a better guide to the services that the hotel offers and not just a one pager flyer. I had trouble getting the Sky TV and then when i did most of the free channels that come with a Sky package were not available, only the discovery, 1 movie channel (not a good one either) 3 odd sports channels (bit of an overkill on the sports side) and 2 news channels. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and both the front line staff and housekeeping were all very friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed my stay and even though i provided a couple of suggestions that would improve my overall experience in the future in the next section, I would definitely stay again at the Abel Tasman Mecure - Wellington.
Thanks.

"Location, Comfort, Value"

Chocfisshh, 5/5 Reviewed 17th June 2018 on Tri Advisor.com

Stayed 3 nights for Work in the Capital - the Hotel was all I needed.
This is nicely positioned in Willis St but away from the busy part of Willis meant CBD was 5mins walk from the hotel. It is also less than 5mins walk from Cuba St and a few more minutes to Courtney Place, Te Papa and the Waterfront. Right next door is a Food Hall that offers varieties of menus and very affordable eating.
The cost of staying here is more than reasonable. Book direct with the hotel or use your Accor Loyalty membership to get the best deals.
The room is comfortable and the bed gave me the best travel sleep in a long while.
Staff and Service complimented the hotel nicely.
I would stay here again. It meets all my travel needs when in Wellington for business or pleasure.

“The staff were very helpful, which includes reception, and housekeeping staff.”

Personally, I found the bed a little too firm. It would be nice to have the choice of green tea along with the tea and coffee. These two items are personal to my own needs. Nice rooms, equipped with all the usual needs, fridge, kitchenette, toiletries etc.

"Great Stay"

M2nkin, 4/5 Reviewed 2nd May 2018 on TripAdvisor.com

Hotel in a great location only a few minutes walk to Te Papa or Michael Fowler Center. The earplugs were appreciated as the only down side was the rather loud night life. Room was clean and comfortable.

Averil, 10/10 Review Received 4th December 2017 from Booking.com

This hotel was rated 3.5 stars but from my experience it was higher than that. I had six adult members of my immediate family staying there in three rooms and we all said that we will definitely stay here again when we are in Wellington. It was great. The staff were very helpful and accommodating, thank you Mercure Abel Tasman

"Convenient, Excellent Service - Will Return"

Familyof4_Boys2014, 4/5 Review Received 27th March 2018 from Trip Advisor

Stayed at the Abel Tasman for 7 nights. The hotel is located near shopping at Lambton Quay, restaurants on Cuba Street and easy access to the main highway system. 169 Bistro serves a good breakfast buffet with hot food, meat, fruit and anything you need. Service at the hotel and the Bistro were excellent, very pleasant and willing to offer / provide any information required from shopping to dinner.
The rooms were simple but as required. WiFi was consistent and dependable. Television offered only 6 channels or so. Not an expensive hotel so there were a few noticeable tired parts of the room - some spots on the roof & floor and wall-paper seams lifting in a few places. Nothing to fret about as the pro outweighed the cons.
Given the need or opportunity I will use the Abel Tasman again.

"Short walk to Theaters"

Allwnh50, 4/5 Review Received 3rd December 2017 from Trip Advisor

If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel within walking distance of the Opera House and the St James Theater this could be the place for you. And it's a short walk down Willis Street to Lambton Quay as well.

"Highly recommend"

Deborah, 5/5 Review Received 12th January 2018 from Expedia

Single mum with 2 kids, the triple bed option was perfect. There was still more then enough room, the bathroom was large. The accessories supplied ie. tea/coffee/cups/plates, hairdryer etc were of a high standard. Beds were comfortable. The staff at the front counter were most helpful with advice on where to eat and tourist attractions. Central in location to city, tourist attractions and waterfront
